PM Modi's photo removed from COVID Vaccine certificates

  • MoHFW has removed PM Modi's photograph from COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued via the CoWIN platform
  • Social Media users speculated this change due to the recent Astrazeneca COVID vaccine fiasco
  • But, alteration is attributed to compliance with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for elections

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has opted to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph from COVID-19 vaccination certificates issued via the CoWIN platform. Previously adorned with PM Modi's image alongside the caption "Together, India will defeat COVID-19," the certificates now retain the motivational quote, duly attributed to the Prime Minister, sans his photo.

Several social Media users speculated this change due to the recent Astrazeneca vaccine fiasco, where the organization affirmed that in a rare case the vaccine recipients may develop blood clots. Netizens and opposition claimed that the removal of PM's photo was to distance Modi from this controversy before the elections.

But actually, the decision to remove PM Modi's photo from the vaccine certificates is linked to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) for elections. This modification has stirred public interest and speculation, with many users on social media platforms like X initially attributing the change to the recent admission regarding Covishield, a vaccine developed by the Serum Institute of India (SII) under license from AstraZeneca. However, clarifications affirmed that the alteration indeed stemmed from compliance with the Model Code of Conduct.
